YouTube to bring non-skippable ads to all creators

YouTube is hoping it can help its creators earn more by brining non-skippable ads to everyone, meaning creators can start to monetize their videos. This feature was first available to a select few as an experimental option but now it’s coming to everyone who’s part of YouTube’s Partner Program. Advertisers, as we know, tend to pay more for ads that get watched in their entirety. As a viewer, it’ll probably concern you how long these videos are. But according to a Google Help page you can expect these non-skippable ads to be between 15 to 20 seconds.

Creators who get access to this feature will have it auto-activated for all the previous uploads and you’ll get access to tools to track the performance of these non-skippable ads. If it looks like there’s a decline in viewership or earnings, this feature can be deactivated for all videos in the settings.

Facebook will soon autoplay video ads in Messenger

Facebook has admitted in the past that it no longer has room in its main app for ads. What’s their solution? Putting it in its other apps like Messenger and Marketplace. You may or may not have already noticed ads on Messenger and tried to ignore them. But now you might no longer be able to with Facebook’s plans to rollout autoplaying video ads to integrate alongside your messages.

When asked if users might find this obnoxious, Stefanos Loukakos, who run’s Messenger’s ad business, acknowledges this possibility and said they’re monitoring user behavior to see if these ads will turn people off. He said that when they started integrating basic ads to the service, it “didn’t show any changes with how people used the platform or how many messages they send.” He adds, “Video might be different, but we don’t believe so.” Facebook will start testing this with some of its users starting Monday. Let us know what you think if this hits your inbox.

New iPad Pro ads puts the spotlight on its augmented reality feature and the Apple Pencil

Two new Apple iPad Pro ads highlight a couple of important features of the tablets. One is the “Augmented Reality” ad that shows a girl biking around a city street when she spots a man quietly reading a newspaper on the bench. For some reason, she stops and decides to whip out her iPad Pro to show off how augmented reality can work in this scene. She drops some furniture around him. The short 15-second ad ends with the tagline: “A new way to augment reality.” The description in the video’s YouTube page says, “With iPad Pro + iOS 11, you can use augmented reality to literally transform the world around you. Your next computer might not be a computer.”

Google will stop scanning your emails for targeted ads

Regular Gmail users have long been complaining about their privacy being intruded on for them to see contextually aware ads. But with Google trying to grow its enterprise customer base, there have been concerns among its current clients and promising ones that Google plans to use their data for their advertising business. Hoping to assuage fears, this is the policy Google is choosing to employ for everyone later this year. They will still continue to scan emails for potential spam or phishing attacks as well as offer automated reply suggestions. But you have to take note that they will still show ads and use data from its other services like YouTube and Search to give you these advertisements.
